Lifestyle Stuff

Photography

Ever since my mom got a high zoom point and shoot fancy piece of work, I decided maybe I should try a stint in photography, I might actually like it. I swear to god I am a complete dork for spending close to four hours time total on research of what's out there on the market. So I made this handy dandy decision matrix (as they so conveniently taught us in high school econ) to make my decision. It sucks because I don't like having to make a decision on whats written down on paper. The real way to really understand a piece of equipment is to have it and use it for a few days and figure out what you really don't like about it... and then try the next one. It's not to do all this research behind a computer and then take an estimate shot in the dark. Anyway, here is what i looked at, I wonder how it will look when I paste it from excel into this text window.

let's see...

Brand Model Price Zoom MP LCD Refresh Memory Power DSLR? Review (4-5)/5
Pentax x70 $319.95 24x 12 2.7 11 fps SD D-Li92 Li-I, 150-175 shots per recharge N
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX1 $429.99 20x 9 3 10 fps xD NPFH50 LiIon N
FujiFilm FinePix S8100fd $469.99 18x 10 2.5 13.5 fps SD 4 AA N
Canon Powershot SX10IS $359.88 20x 10 2.5 ??? SD 4 AA 600 shots N
Olympus SP-590UZ $347.95 26x 12 2.7 10 fps xD or mSD 4 AA N "10/14"
Nikon CoolPix P90 $396.95 24x 12.1 3 15 fps SD EN-EL5 LiIon 200-250 shots N 42/56

not too shabby.

The list goes from No's to yes's. I think the Olympus and the Nikon are really great products and I'll be keeping my eye on these guys for sure. I like that the Nikon can do 15 frame shots per second on 3 MP but I also like how the Olympus uses only AA batteries. It kinda throws me off that Olympus is using xD memory but whatever, there is still the micro SD that I can still use. Also the Olympus is at least $50 cheaper. I'm still deciding whether to get it off of Amazon or whether to eBay this shit because the shady eBay dealers are good at throwing in a bunch of extras that I'm really not sure I'm going to use.

The reason I'm not looking at the DSLRs is really because for now I see this as a hobby and I'm simply and amateur. The first DSLR I'll ever buy (and yeah I've already decided) is the Canon Rebel EOS XSi, but I'm not ready to drop $700 just yet. We'll see where this dirt road of photography will take me. I still have miles to walk.

DJ

So DJ Apples is retiring his equipment and low and behold, here I am ready to get into it. I feel like his reason for getting out is kind of bullshit. Like I understand that the DJing lifestyle puts you in the path of all sorts of disgusting characters, especially if your genre is trance/house and your main venue of performance is a random ass rave every weekend. But really if its truly about the music and especially so if its a hobby, I expect someone to exercise restraint at the sight of something that took a portion of your life away IE drugs. He is however predisposed to addiction so I can't blame him.

Apples wants $2500 for the whole shebang and me not knowing anything is thinking this is one hell of a deal. But as much as I'd like to drop that at fucking brand-ass new equipment (Pioneer CDJ MK2 turntables) I really haven't decided yet if this is for me.

I've been looking a lot at the Denon DNHS5500 and wow this thing is crazy. It does MP3s and CDs and has separate audio out for both. It's like $1200 MSRP but on amazon it goes for $441. Random. Anyway I like it, it looks way cool and I think I would really enjoy what I'm doing on it. The reviews I read are like people have had it for months now and are still discovering new features on it. Thats the kind of thing I like about the stuff I buy.

Acting

Went to a workshop in the middle of Chelsea a few weeks back. It really turned me on to this stuff. I am going to try a stint at this for a bit but I don't have way high hopes for it. We'll see.

Graphic Design

Man you want to talk about not knowing where to start. I think I'm going to need to quickly add some graphic designers in my life to really come into something useful with this field. Devin and I have been talking about designing skateboard decks but it's just really hard to produce and even break a mold into. I keep hearing that patience is really the key to realizing your passions. We'll see.
